Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 6, 2027. It is one of the six holidays that push Augusta’s trash pickup back a day, Augusta Transit runs no buses, and city offices and libraries close. The weekend before, the Augusta GreenJackets play their last home games of the season at SRP Park.

What is open and closed

Trash. Labor Day is one of the six holidays Augusta Environmental Services observes. Pickup on and after the holiday runs a day late for the rest of the week: Monday routes on Tuesday, Sept. 7, through Friday routes on Saturday, Sept. 11 (holiday schedule). Extra holiday garbage is taken for one cycle if it is bagged and set next to the cart.

Buses. Labor Day is on Augusta Transit’s list of holidays with no service, and Transit never runs on Sundays, so there are no buses Sunday or Monday of the long weekend.

City offices. Labor Day was a city holiday on the 2026 schedule; the 2027 list is not out yet.

Libraries. In 2026 the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library closed Sunday and Monday of Labor Day weekend (closed dates).

Schools. Labor Day was a holiday on the Richmond County School System’s 2026-27 calendar; the 2027-28 calendar is not posted yet.

Labor Day weekend events

GreenJackets final homestand. The Augusta GreenJackets host the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at SRP Park in North Augusta, South Carolina, Wednesday, Sept. 1, through Sunday, Sept. 5, 2027, the last home series on the league schedule. Game times and fireworks nights are not announced yet (GreenJackets schedule).
The Augusta Market at the River runs Saturdays at 8th and Reynolds streets in season; its 2026 season ran through Nov. 21 (The Augusta Market).
