Augusta collects trash, yard waste and bulk items weekly on one day; carts out by 6 a.m. Recycling is now a sign-up service from Coastal: 706-790-4117.
Last checked Oct. 6, 2026. Facts on this page come from Augusta Environmental Services’ residential services pages.
Augusta’s consolidated city-county government collects household garbage, yard waste and bulk waste across Richmond County. Everything goes to the curb on the same day each week, and carts need to be out by 6 a.m. on your service day. Curbside recycling is no longer a city service: it is now a separate sign-up program run by Coastal Waste & Recycling.

What day is my pickup?
Enter your address on the city’s Find My Day of Service page. The same page lets you sign up for a reminder and download the Augusta Solid Waste app. Garbage, yard waste and bulk waste all go out on that one day.
The city’s curbside garbage rules:
- Carts at the curb no later than 6 a.m., handle facing your property.
- Leave 3 feet of clearance around each cart so the truck’s arm can reach it, and keep carts away from mailboxes, parked cars, poles and low limbs.
- Do not block the sidewalk or put carts in the street. Take them in the evening of pickup day.
- Garbage goes only in the city’s black carts; bags beside the cart are not collected except in the holiday weeks below.
Residents who cannot get their carts to the curb may qualify for assisted collection.
Holiday schedule
Augusta Environmental Services observes six holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. When one falls on a weekday, a pickup on or after the holiday that week runs one day late, with Friday pickup moving to Saturday, according to the city’s holiday schedule. Every other holiday, including Columbus Day and Veterans Day, runs as normal.
| Holiday | Date | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Thanksgiving | Thursday, Nov. 26 | Thursday pickup moves to Friday, Nov. 27; Friday pickup to Saturday, Nov. 28 |
| Christmas | Friday, Dec. 25 | Friday pickup moves to Saturday, Dec. 26 |
| New Year’s Day | Friday, Jan. 1, 2027 | Friday pickup moves to Saturday, Jan. 2 |
The table applies the city’s one-day rule to the calendar. After each of the six holidays, the city collects extra holiday garbage for one cycle if it is bagged in plastic and set next to the cart. It does the same in the week before, the week of and the week after the Masters Tournament.
Bulk waste
Bulk pickup is weekly and included in the annual fee, according to the city’s bulk waste page. Bulk waste means household items too big for the cart, such as furniture, mattresses and appliances.
- Up to 10 cubic yards a week, about one 5-by-5-by-10-foot pile.
- Out by 6 a.m. on your service day, away from carts, mailboxes and parked cars.
- Loose items must be bagged, boxed or containerized; tape glass and take the doors off old appliances.
- Nothing heavier than a crew can lift by hand.
- Not taken: garbage, hazardous materials, tires, construction and demolition debris and auto parts. Tires can go to the city’s free tire recycling events.
A pile that breaks the rules gets an out-of-compliance hangtag and stays put. If the city removes it, the hourly charges are added to your next property tax bill.
Yard waste
Yard waste is also weekly and included, under the city’s yard waste rules:
- Up to 10 cubic yards a week, in a single row no longer than 10 feet.
- No plastic bags. Use paper yard bags or 32-gallon cans marked “YARD WASTE.”
- No piece longer than 5 feet; tie branches in bundles with cut ends toward the road.
- No soil, lumber, food or garbage.
Live Christmas trees go out as yard waste in the first two weeks of January; artificial and flocked trees go out as bulk waste.
Recycling: now a sign-up service
The city’s own curbside recycling program ended Aug. 1, 2025, and the blue-lid city carts have been collected. Coastal Waste & Recycling now runs a curbside program for Richmond County residents who sign up, with service that began Jan. 1, 2026. Coastal bills participants directly every quarter.
