Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants in Augusta

Augusta’s Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants cluster on Washington Road between Boy Scout Road and Stevens Creek Road, and on Wrightsboro Road from Cantina Locale out to the Augusta Mall. There are more on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway by Augusta Exchange, and five downtown, around Broad Street.

How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records inside Augusta’s city limits, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 6, 2026. We added places we found in the Georgia Department of Public Health inspection database for Richmond County and the Augusta Mall directory, and kept a place with no website only where a 2026 inspection record shows it operating. The list is alphabetical. It is not a ranking or a recommendation, and nobody paid to be on it. Run one of these places? Write to us to correct your entry.

The places

Cantina Locale calls itself “Fresh Mex” and takes reservations, catering and party bookings, its site says. It is in the Wrightsboro Road shopping center that also holds the Village Deli.

Chili’s is the Tex-Mex grill chain’s Augusta location, by Augusta Exchange.

Chipotle has two Augusta stores, on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway and on Washington Road. Both location pages list the same hours, 10:45 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day.

Diablo’s Southwest Grill is a fast-casual chain from the Augusta area with four stores inside the city: Peach Orchard Road, Walton Way, Washington Road and Wheeler Road. Its site lists burritos, burrito bowls, tacos, quesadillas, nachos and salads, with wood-smoked meats and online ordering for each store.

El Presidente on Eighth Street downtown has no website. A July 27, 2026, county inspection record confirms it is operating.

El Tejano Latin Cuisine Express at the Village at Riverwatch has no website of its own. A June 23, 2026, inspection record confirms it is operating.

El Veracruz on Stevens Creek Road had a website that no longer loads. A Sept. 22, 2026, inspection record confirms it is operating.

La Michoacana Creamery and Mexican Grill on Washington Road has no website. A Sept. 16, 2026, inspection record confirms it is operating.

Lokos Tacos has two stores, on Washington Road and Boy Scout Road. Its site describes Mexican street tacos and dishes from different regions of Mexico, and its menu names quesabirrias, aguachiles and street tacos.

Los Cabos on Baker Avenue has no website. A May 4, 2026, inspection record confirms it is operating.

Mi Rancho 2 on Walton Way Extension has no website of its own. An April 14, 2026, inspection record confirms it is operating.

Nacho Mama’s on Broad Street has no website beyond an online order page. A Sept. 24, 2026, inspection record confirms it is operating.

Señor Birds is a tacos and tequila bar chain with an Augusta page on its site, which would not load for us. A July 23, 2026, inspection record lists it at 1167 Broad St., the address OpenStreetMap still gives for El Paso Tacos & Tequila.

Surcheros is a Georgia fresh-Mex chain with two Augusta stores, on Washington Road and on Trust Avenue off Wheeler Road. Both pages list the same hours.

Taco Madre is in the Augusta Mall near Barnes & Noble. The mall’s directory says it is a family-owned taqueria from Illinois serving Mexican street tacos and its own “Madre Style” tacos.

Tacocat on 10th Street downtown has a private dining room for up to 24 seated guests and live music on some nights, its site says. It is part of Frog Hollow Hospitality Group.

Taqueria El Patron has two stores, on Washington Road and Wrightsboro Road. The hours box on its site did not give clear hours when we checked, so call before you go.

Vallarta has two Augusta restaurants, on Washington Road and Wrightsboro Road. Its sites list both addresses but not their hours.
