Summerville is the historic neighborhood west of downtown Augusta. The city’s 2023 comprehensive plan says the Summerville local historic district has large historic homes dating back to the 1780s “along with homes and developments built through the 1980s,” and places the Partridge Inn, the former Bon Air Hotel, now apartments, and Augusta University inside its boundaries, along with commercial corridors with retail, business and entertainment uses. The plan says infill on vacant lots “is common and encouraged particularly for single family residential use.” The city’s neighborhood map draws Summerville at about 1.9 square miles.
